Ducts and design - 2008/06/30 03:09 Hi all.

I recently bought a second hand Vulcan heater unit, complete with ducting, and a new digital thermostat.

I will need to purchase some additional ducting and bto's, but am not sure what I will need as I'm not familiar with the designing part.

The existing ducting layout was quite simple, with the layout being 12" for 4 metres into a 12x10x6x6 bto (the 2x6" being 2 metres long each), 10" for 3 metres into 10x8x6x6 (2x6" being 2 metres long also), 8" for 3 metres into 8x6x6 Y shape bto (the 2x6x6 being 3.5 meters long).

So the whole system looks like a tree with 6 branches, 3 either side, very simple.

The layout will suit my home, except I need another 3 registers that will need to break into the existing ducting near the start (into the 12"). I'll need 2 registers about 3 metres apart, and the third about 5 metres away.

The problem is I don't know what size ducting to use - I'm thinking of putting in a 12x10x10 Y bto before the existing 12x10x6x6 and running 10" for 3 metres into a 10x6x6x6 with 3x4 metre 6".

Phew.

In any case, is there someone I can fax/email/send my house plans and existing duct work sketch to to be advised as to what parts I'll need?

Thanks, Tony.

Re:Ducts and design - 2008/06/30 17:39 Tony - what your suggesting sounds spot on! split the 12" into 2x 10" and run your 3 new points of the 10" - easy! Dynamic Heating & Cooling
